3 Things I Learned From my Grandma

Last week my Grandmother died and we had her funeral today. The pastor suggested that we discuss the things about her life that shaped us. During the reception I really didn’t get a chance to do that but I have put some thought into it and I’ve come up with 3 things I’ve learned because of her.

Shot in the mouth by assasins

John Talks: John was shot in the mouth by assasins for planting churches in Brazil. In total, he was shot 3 times, once in the mouth, once in the neck and once in the arm while preaching in a Brazillian church. John was a missionary commisioned by a local (Des Moines, IA) church and had just returned to Brazil from the USA.

John should have died, but he did not. He was supposed to be in the hospital 6 monhs, but was fit to leave after 3. John is mostly paralyzed from the neck down, but is eager to continue his work. It will be interesting to see what happens next.

The LORD Will Provide

“The LORD Will Provide” Yes, we could argue about the context of this verse and calling on the promise of the Lord when we are in times of trouble, but even if this context is not quite right, it is not hard to make a case that trusting God will always yield the greatest return.
Lord, it sometimes seems like everything goes wrong. There is no way I can do all that is laid upon me right now, how can I go on? Or better yet, how can I go on except by trusting that today you will provide assistance with these burdens? I feel like the load is too heavy, please help now before I fall. Thank you.
