Eclipse SVG Icons
I have a few icons on my desktop for eclipse, each one opens a different work space (you can add -data “/path/to/workspace” to the end of the path on your eclipse shortcut in Windows or Linux to accomplish this). It can be difficult to tell at a glance which icon is wich. So I decided to customize the eclipse icons, but first I wanted them to be SVG. So I recreated the current eclipse icon as an SVG file, and here it is (see attached eclipse-icon-clean.svg).

Note in the screenshot you can see my two customized icons. One with a lightbulb for personal stuff, one with an Ubuntu logo for my work.
I think this svg icon can be tweaked for better output when exported to png. Feel free to use this icon as you would the official eclipse icon. I place no additional restrictions on its use that are not on the original.
EDIT: I’ve added my source SVG file which has the following improvements:
- Horizontal lines are aligned with pixel boundaries to prevent anti-aliasing
- Ubuntu and lightbulb icon overlays are included.
I’m sure this further complicates the license because the Ubuntu logo is a trademark of Canonical and the lightbulb is part of the tango icon set.

already 2nd on google?!?!
Wow, I blogged about this only a couple hours ago, and already I’m the second search result on Google for “eclipse svg icon.” And by “couple,” I mean less than three hours. That is stunning.
SVG rules
Thanks for putting this out there man. I’m using a dock(sorta like a mac) for ubuntu, and when it zooms in on the icons they get fuzzy. This helps out a lot!!! Rock on Bro.
Thanks also, it helps a lot!
Thanks also, it helps a lot!
Thanks for this. Really
Thanks for this. Really helped out. I have just switched from Windows to Ubuntu and the fact that Ubuntu didn’t recognise Eclipse’s default .xpm icon was driving me nuts (call me pedantic).
Anyhow, a quick google search for “eclipse icon svg” and here I am.
Thanks again.
What exactly are the terms?
Would you mind if I pushed a variation on this svg into Debian / Ubuntu packaging? I’m thinking about going on an SVG-ification rampage, for reasons undisclosed, and modifying it will be handy. Please e-mail me if your blog doesn’t.
Terms same as eclipse
I’m not up to speed on the legalease, so I think it’s best if I just release the image under the same license as eclipse.
Thanks
Thanks for the icon, I needed it for the same reasons as Kosta ;)
Now you’re number one on
Now you’re number one on Google for “eclipse svg icon”. Beautiful, just what i needed.
Nice one
Cheers man, just what I needed. I like your Ubuntu version.
Why not share the modified versions too?
Curious why you didn’t put links to share the “ubuntu” and the “lightbulb” versions too?
I hate licenses
Hi, the reason is that I just didn’t think anyone would want those. I can upload them but I’m not confident how the licensing works out. It’s probably a derivative work but I’ve elements of the tango iconset for the lightbulb one and for the other I’ve combined the trademarks of two organizations (Canonical and Eclipse Foundation). I’ll add them to the post as part of my source svg.
