Getting out of Google Hell
Google Hell is where you go when your site, for whatever reason, but normally without any malicious intent, gets delisted or buried in Google’s search results. I received an e-mail this weekend from InformIT (home of the 98% useless e-mail newsletters) about Ten tips for Avoiding Google Hell. This was quite fitting because I was hanging out with a friend this weekend whose site is experiencing this very problem.
He’s created a site listing restaurants in the Des Moines area. For 6 months he’s not been able to get listed on Google, but he has gotten listed on Yahoo. How frustrating.
We looked at it together and of course he’s got advertising, and he requires a lengthy registration process to post reviews, both of which can be considered bad form. However, neither of these should cause problems for getting listed in Google.
Its a good site, so if you’re looking for a restaurant in Des Moines, check him out.
One of my favorites for lunch: The Royal Mile.
