What is this? Could it be… can you really read your RSS news feeds in Evolution?

Well, yes, but its just a hack. A hack made possible by the clever nntp//rss program. This program runs as a service on your computer and then you connect to it using any nntp news reader, which evolution is capable of.

You must have java installed. Then, what I did was edit the config file so that instead of port 117 it runs on 1117. I also created a shell script that launches the program and added it to my session. Logout, log back in and voila! You have RSS News feeds. Of course, you have to setup an account in Evolution, but that’s not hard and I’m sure you’ll figure it out. You tell nntp//rss which feeds you want by visiting a very simple web page.

Finally, your prayers have been answered. Well, except for that part about it not being a hack.
