I’m pleased with the way my ibm laptop running windows xp can use infrared to wirelessly talk to my palm pilot and my nokia cell phone. My laptop is 4 years old now and my cell phone is the freebee they give you when signing up for the prepaid wireless plan. Yet I can beam reminders and phone numbers directly from my palm pilot to the phone. When I point the phone at my laptop’s ir port Windows XP tells me that it’s detected new hardware and installs a modem. It will be interesting to see how that works.
